When we were recruited to design the Nashville American Advertising Awards, we were thrilled to realize we’d just been invited to throw one of our favorite parties of the year. This was our opportunity to design the experience of the industry’s largest and most representative competition.
Challenge
Our task was twofold: get attendees in seats, and get entries submitted. So how do you get the attention of Nashville’s most prolific and competitive creatives? Sure, celebrating each other’s work is great, but we figured dry, sarcastic humor was the way to the heart of this particular audience.
Approach
As we explored ways to engage our audience, we just couldn’t seem to shake one particular theme. Matt Foley’s motivational speeches and ape tit trivia really spoke to us. SNL was the perfect playground to develop an engaging experience from top to bottom.
Solution
Every touchpoint carried a balance of bold creative energy and witty commentary, reflecting the creative culture of Nashville we so love. We ordered boxes of Spartan pom poms and cowbells, placed tiny hands on every table, and loaded the Weekend Update photobooth with familiar puns and props. The project succeeded in bringing together Nashville’s advertising community to both celebrate each other’s work and sense of humor. Oh, and it just so happened to win an ADDY of its own.
