Along with every other brand on the planet, our clients have been embracing video more and more each year. And we’re here for it. But, with all the activity and complexity around video production, it’s easy to lose a few key fundamentals that can set you up for success. We thought we would take a few minutes and write down some thoughts, ‘mkay cupcake?
Cameras, lights, and mics are of course some of the key ingredients, but they can’t really make up for bad planning or boring content. Remember, they are just tools, and tools used the wrong way are useless. Pre-pro is the most important part of the process because it’s really where 95% of the collaboration and alignment should take place. If you’re bringing new ideas to the live production you will be forcing a lot of adaptation, which can really limit the production value and efficiency.

Fix it in pre.
Often, B2B-oriented brands and esoteric markets can lose sight of what works best at what level. Said another way, it’s easy to lose sight of the objective and the audience. This is honestly where a good agency or video production partner can show the most value – it will be easier for them to empathize and advocate for your audience.

Whether it’s a Pre-Pro call or video village at a shoot, it’s usually a large group effort. Counting team members from the client side, agency side, and production crew can make for some large numbers in pretty tight spaces. And, sometimes, that’s needed. But when it comes down to decisions made on the script, direction, and edit, less is more. As the process moves forward, your decision makers should decrease.
